The Hamptons are string of seaside communities in the towns of Southampton and East Hampton, which form the South Fork of Long Island, New York. This popular seaside resort is one of the historical summer colonies of the American Northeast. Here, you will also find some of the most expensive homes in the country. Residents of The Hamptons include many of New York City’s and surrounding states’ most affluent people. Real estate prices in the Hamptons rank among the highest anywhere.
East Hampton is home to high-end restaurants, bars and designer boutiques. The LongHouse Reserve sculpture garden, featuring works from artists like Willem de Kooning and Dale Chihuly, is also in East Hampton. Sag Harbor has the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum. Montauk Highway, with its wineries and farm stands, is the region’s main artery. Its eastern terminus is Montauk, a laid-back destination for surfing and fishing with many seafood shacks and an iconic lighthouse.
Weekends are always busy in the Hamptons, in particular during the warm, summer months. This is the time when thousands leave NYC and to come here. Many glamorous events take place during this time, including the Golf Classic, Art Southampton, the Hampton Classic Horse Race and East Hampton Library’s Authors Night.
